Avencia Consulting are partnered with a Bermuda based Reinsurer who are currently expanding their Property Treaty Underwriting team.

This role presents an opportunity for a Treaty Underwriter to move to their Bermuda office.

The role

The Underwriter is responsible for day to day Underwriting of the Reinsurance book and achieving targeted portfolio composition.

Key accountabilities

  • Assist with the strategic underwriting and financial planning for inwards reinsurance and contribute to the establishment and implementation of best practices for Fidelis
  • Underwriting for the Reinsurance portfolio including the evaluation and presentation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language for multiple lines of business, including complex specialty products
  • Provide expertise and guidance in technical insurance matters, and, with oversight from the Bermuda CUO, oversee the development and/or enhancement of new and/or existing products and market entries
  • Ensure products are competitive from a pricing and coverage standpoint and assure that products are in compliance with all insurance laws, regulations and Company strategic plans
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior members of the team
  • Directly use risk modeling and pricing tools to analyze opportunities, building models where necessary; work with modelling for final pricing analysis
  • Originate, leverage, build and maintain broker and client relationships for multiple lines of business
  • Prepare and issue quotes on an accurate and timely basis
  • Maintain strong working relationships across jurisdictional underwriting, modelling and planning teams
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external underwriting regulations, liaising as appropriate with external bodies such as brokers, clients, auditors and regulators as required

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years’ industry experience within reinsurance and specialty lines of business, particularly with complex credit risk and excess of loss products
  • Capable of transacting on a range of non-traditional products such as Cat bonds, Swaps, ILWs, Retro, proportional and non-proportional products
  • Demonstrable established relationships with Reinsurance clients
  • Proven success leveraging business skills to develop and attract new business, as well as expanding an existing portfolio
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills (testing may be required), with a working knowledge of and ability to interpret the outputs of existing broker and vendor Cat Models
  • Advanced Knowledge of Excel, @Risk, Access, and the ability to adapt quickly to understand or create pricing models for nontraditional specialty products. Excellent VBA skills, basic knowledge of Sql, and demonstrable use of complex DFA models
