Senior Claims Adjuster – SPT

Markel

The Special Projects Team (SPT) is responsible for managing all claims classified as legacy – that is, discontinued business lines that have been formally transferred to SPT. Each year, newly discontinued classes of business are reviewed for potential transfer, with decisions based on broker and client expectations, claims complexity, geographical factors, available expertise, and overall team capacity. In limited cases, certain claims may remain managed within their original divisions.

The SPT’s purpose:

  1. To deliver strategic oversight and day-to-day management of MINT’s legacy portfolio under a streamlined structure.
  2. To drive the proactive closure of dormant claims.
  3. To identify and pursue commutation opportunities that optimise outcomes for MINT and its stakeholders.

As of September 2025, SPT manages approximately 5,000 direct and reinsurance claims spanning multiple classes of business, including Marine, Aviation, Motor, Accident & Health, Property, Banks Liability, and Italian Public Officials, among others – with claims dating from the 1992 Year of Account onward. Both standard and complex losses are handled in-house by SPT without reliance on a separate volume claims function.
