Exciting opportunity to work for a growing Specialty Insurer who are seeking an experienced Senior Livestock Underwriter to join a specialist underwriting team focused on delivering profitable growth within the livestock insurance market.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong underwriter with established market relationships to play a key role in developing a specialist portfolio, supporting strategic growth initiatives and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical underwriting expertise with deep market knowledge and the ability to build trusted relationships across the insurance market.
The role
As Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and developing a profitable portfolio of livestock business while helping to strengthen the organisation’s lead market capabilities.
You will work closely with brokers, clients and colleagues across underwriting, claims, actuarial, legal and compliance functions to deliver profitable growth, maintain strong underwriting standards and support the ongoing development of the livestock proposition.
Key accountabilities
Portfolio & Underwriting Management
- Underwrite, review, peer-review and service, profitable new business and renewals for the Livestock account.
- Support the development of a balanced and profitable livestock portfolio.
- Analyse management information and provide recommendations to support underwriting strategy.
- Maintain strong underwriting discipline and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
Broker & Market Relationships
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.
- Clearly communicate underwriting appetite, strategy and proposition.
- Maintain awareness of market developments, emerging risks and opportunities.
- Support initiatives that enhance market presence and strengthen trading relationships.
- Deliver a high standard of service and responsiveness to trading partners.
Technical Expertise
- Apply specialist livestock underwriting knowledge when assessing risk and coverage requirements.
- Contribute to underwriting best practice and technical development across the team.
- Provide guidance and support on complex underwriting matters where required.
- Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, products and coverage developments.
Collaboration & Development
- Mentor and support less experienced underwriting colleagues.
- Share technical knowledge and promote underwriting excellence across the team.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across underwriting, claims, actuarial, legal and compliance functions.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture.
Projects, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in strategic projects and business initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation and controls in line with regulatory and governance requirements.
- Support wider business activities and projects as required.
Skills & experience
- Significant underwriting experience within Livestock Insurance.
- Strong technical understanding of livestock risks, products and coverage structures.
- Established network and relationships across the livestock insurance market.
- The ability to build credibility with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively and influence key stakeholders.
