Construction Underwriter – Renewals
Leeds or London | Hybrid working

An established specialist insurer is looking for an Underwriter to join its Construction team.

This role focuses on managing an existing portfolio of construction risks, including general building contractors, mechanical contractors and interior fit-out businesses. You’ll handle renewals and mid-term adjustments across a varied book, with average premiums of around £15,000.

With a new Head of Construction in place, the team is developing its approach to underwriting and broker engagement. This is an opportunity to build strong broker relationships, identify cross-selling opportunities and work closely with the new business team.

Key responsibilities

  • Underwrite renewals and mid-term adjustments within your authority.

  • Manage broker relationships, with regular contact over the phone.

  • Balance retention and profitability across your portfolio.

  • Identify opportunities for additional cover and work with colleagues across the Construction team.

  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and manage your workload efficiently.

Skills & experience

  • Construction underwriting experience, gained in either new business or renewals.

  • Underwriting authority held at an insurer.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Good organisation and the ability to manage your workload with minimal supervision.

  • Confidence using underwriting systems and adapting to new processes.
